Picture Note: James Trainor & Elizabeth Trainor - parish record of their marriage 23 Dec 1873 (St Patrick's RC chapel, Clonallon parish). The entry is written up after 9 Jan 1874. This may be due to waiting for a Diocesan Dispensation to marry if they were related. (The witness "Mary McKivikin" is recorded as "Sarah" by the Warrenpoint registrar). The going fee for the ceremony appears to be £1 (1:0:0). © Copyright the National Library of Ireland - http://registers.nli.ie/ Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI.

Ummeracam LandPurchase 1927_Belfast Gazette Sept 30_ 1 of 9
Picture Note: The Land Purchase Commission 1927, statement published in the Belfast Gazette - 30 Sep 1927 (page 1 of 9). These are the households in Ummeracam (Johnston) who are tenants of the 3 Gregg sisters. Tenants and the landlord sisters have until 31 October 1927 to object before the holdings become "vested in" (compulsory purchase by) the Land Commission. See the 1929 Belfast Gazette announcement confirming completion.
Picture Note: Here our "Francis Byrns" is tenant of holding No3 (11 acres).
Picture Note: The remaining households in Ummeracam (Johnston) - which included our Rose Hughes - were tenants of Edward Geoghegan [see the Belfast Gazette page for 30 Sept 1929 (page 8 of 9)]. © Crown copyright – The Belfast Gazette (Open Government Licence).

Ummeracam LandPurchase 1927_Belfast Gazette Sept 30_ 8 of 9
Picture Note: The Land Purchase Commission 1927, statement from the Belfast Gazette - 30 Sept 1929 (page 8 of 9). These are most of the households in Ummeracam (Johnston) in 1927-1929. The landlord Edward Geoghegan had entered no prior objection thus the lands were taken over by the Land Commission to offer tenants favourable terms to buy their holdings. This was the culmination of the Wyndham Land (Purchase) Act 1903 and virtually all county Armagh tenants took up the offer. Here Rose Hughes (widow) is tenant of holdings No1 & 21. The remaining 12 households in Ummeracam (Johnston) - which included our Francis Byrnes - were tenants of the other landlord: the 3 Gregg sisters and thus not listed here. © Crown copyright – The Belfast Gazette (Open Government Licence)

Picture Note: The Land Purchase Commission 1927, statement published in the Belfast Gazette - 25 Nov 1927. These are the households in Ummeracam (Johnston) who are tenants of the 3 Gregg sisters. The sisters had entered no prior objection thus the lands were taken over by the Land Commission to offer tenants favourable terms to buy their holdings. It confirms that the Ummeracam land of the 12 tenants will transfer to the Land Purchase Commission 20 days later. Subsequently each tenant will receive an offer to buy their land and buildings, with payment over many years.
Picture Note: This was the culmination of the Wyndham Land (Purchase) Act 1903 and virtually all county Armagh tenants took up the offer.
