Picture Note: Marriage of James Boyle and Bridget Grogan - 31 Oct 1861. Extract from the parish records of St Patrick's RC chapel, Drumintee, County Armagh. The Boyle's parish was Mullaghban thus Dromintee must be the bride's parish - as was customary. Witnesses were: James Magee and Mary Conroy. The McGee's were next door neigbours to James Boyle. This Witness, James McGee, would be a brother of Denis McGee - and not Denis's son James McGee (son-in-law of James Boyle) born 1846 would be aged 15. In Ireland witnesses were often first cousins or had a hand in matching up the couple. © Copyright the National Library of Ireland - http://registers.nli.ie/ Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI.

Boyle,James landRecords1866-82_Sl Gullion
Picture Note: James Boyle (column 1: No3) - this is an extract from the land entry for "Slieve Gullion" townland. Many official documents of families living in "Slieve Gullion" townland (birth/marriage documents) record their residence as being "Aghadanove" townland . However there were no "Boyle" families in "Aghadanove" during this perod of Griffiths Land Revision records. The discrepancy is likely as they could not Read/Write at the time and were thus unsure of the precise fields where the Townlands changed. Boyle,James_d1885_(adanove)_S Gullion
Picture Note: James Boyle - copy of registration of death: 8 Jun 1885. Just 57 years of age; of "Chronic Bronchitis & General Debility. 6 months. Certified". The harsh life may well have contributed to "General Debility" and "Chronic Bronchitis" proving fatal even in the month of June. However, has James been debilitated in his early 20's by the Potato Famine of 1845 -1852? Locally this is an early record of when a doctor (he/she had to be paid and) was in attendance - hence a death is "Certified". © https://www.irishgenealogy.ie - Civil Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths & Church Records
