    • The Registrar's (Celebrant's) marriage entry records that James Murray of "Ballynarea" (a townland near Newtownhamilton) and a Bachelor, is a "Servant". This would be a Farm Servant usually living and working on the Farmer's premises for the period/season of hire. James' father, Michael Murray is a Labourer.
Likewise Rose Watters is a "Servant" for a season as a live-in Domestic Servant. Her father, James Watters, is a Labourer.
Witnesses: Thomas Sheridan and Mary Anne Sheridan.
The marriage entry is also recorded in the parish records of Cullyhanna RC parish. The chapel where this marriage ceremony took place in 1881 may have been located in Newtownhamilton itself-to be verified. The Celebrant, Fr Arthur O'Toole, is authorised as a Registrar.

  • Notes
    • James Murray married Rose Watters in 1881. At the time he is recorded as a Farm Servant - usually living and working on the Farmer's premises for the period/season of hire. James' father, Michael Murray is a Labourer.
A "John Murray" is recorded as the father of Anne Murray of Skerriff Tichburn, in her 1913 marriage records. In the 1911 census of County Armagh there is a "John Murray" in Skerriff Tichburn, Lisleitrim but his daughter Annie Teresa is aged just 4 (so not married in 1913). However there is a "James Murray" in Skerriff Tichburn, Lisleitrim, his daughter Anne Eliza Murray is aged 28 and "Single". This indicates an error by the celebrant in the 1913 marriage entry recording Anne's father as "John Murray" instead of "James Murray".
